Visual Thinking

  • This week we were asked to draw a holiday we remember in a frame.
  • I drew a scene from when I went to Goa.
  • I drew this frame from my point of view. This helped me understand proportion and changed the way I look at things, people and places.
  • For this week, I drew a caricature of myself. This was supposed to be my signature.
  • The first thing people notice about me are my glasses and then my nose which is why I decided to highlight them and make them the main features.
  • After drawing these for more than 50 times I became very familiar with it and could draw it quickly and with ease.
  • This improved my observational skills and my speed.
  • For this week we were asked to draw objects fast and in a given period of time.
  • We started off with 3 minutes and kept reducing the time til we could draw these objects in 1 second.
  • This made me realize that objects can be drawn with just a few lines and making details on them every time is not necessary.
  • In this class I drew skylines of the places I saw.
  • I was to make the building and all the other elements in the simplest of ways. This was meant to be a quick sketch with undetailed details.
  • This class, we made a group of 4 and had to make a comic by each of us making one frame and then passing it around.
  • We were given a starting frame and had to continue from there.
  • The story is about how cats and dogs gang up against each other.
  • This was a fun exercise and due to the time limit it was quite challenging as well.
  • This week we painted a portrait with our hands.
  • We all poured paints in our hands and started painting. This was a lot of fun but it also helped me understand the proportion, lights and shadows in a portrait.
  • Although the paint was all over my clothes, I didn’t mind it as this was a great learning experience.
  • This week I drew objects with my wrong hand and legs.
  • I first drew the objects with my left hand. This was a bit challenging nut doable.
  • Then I drew with my legs. This was much more difficult than drawing with your wrong hand.
  • I realized that after drawing these it was much easier for me to draw over them with my right hand.
  • This class I made a miniature mannequin of myself and also made a skyline.
  • I made my mannequin with a closed mouth and an opened mouth so that I could show the mannequin as she is speaking.
  • After I was done we combined these together and made a short GIF out of it.
